Radiohead's third album got compared to Pink Floyd a lot when it came out, and its slow drama and conceptual sweep certainly put it in that category.
OK Computer, though, is a complicated and difficult record: an album about the way machines dehumanize people that's almost entirely un-electronic; an album by a British "new wave of new wave" band that rejects speed and hooks in favor of languorous texture and morose details; a sad and humanist record whose central moment is Thom Yorke crooning "We hope that you choke." Sluggish, understated, and hard to get a grip on,
OK Computer takes a few listens to appreciate, but its entirety means more than any one song.

Words cannot encompass what this album means to me. When I heard it, I knew right away, that it was what I had been waiting my whole life to hear. Its taught me so much. Every song is laden with meaning and a powerful message. I genuinely pity those who are too shallow to grasp it. To me, this album is more than just music and Radiohead is more than just a band; they're the soundtrack to life.

I can live my life to Radiohead. I own all of their CDs and listed to them more than any other group. Does this make me a loser? Maybe, but if you are a fan, then you understand. They have a song to match all of your moods and life experiences. I am surprised that more of their songs aren't featured on soundtracks for movies. Ok Computer is right up with the best of them all. It takes me from a cocky self confidence with 'Airbag' to exhausted delusions with 'Climbing up the Walls' to the a calm and peaceful state of semi consciousness with 'The Tourist. Of course, you will have a different experience with each song depending on the flashbacks and twisted thoughts that they provoke, but it is always worth it. Personally, I would have left off 'Fitter Happier', but that is because it just interrupts my groove. The rest is just bliss, confusion, excitement or anguish. Whatever feelings you need to come to the forefront at the time. I have always thought that listening to any Radiohead CD is cheaper and more effective than any therapist.

OK Computer is a musical masterpiece! Each song just continues to get better every time I listen to it. It's obvious from some of the juvenile negative reviews I've read that not everyone's into listening to albums like this from beginning to end (as intended, over and over again). No shuffling and superficial listening here! Insanely complex vocals, lyrics, and instrumentation all add up to a musical experience unlike anything else I've ever had. To those who prefer to keep things simple and straightforward (not that there's anything wrong with that!), don't waste your money. This material just isn't for you and probably never will be. That's the nature of art. There's no objective measure of what constitutes greatness. I'm just happy I have finally "discovered" OK Computer and Radiohead in my old age (58). I'm now totally immersed in the unbelievably complex, thought-provoking world created by Thom Yorke and company, having purchased everything ever recorded by them. Everything else is on hold now, including my decades-old addictions to Pink Floyd, The Moody Blues, and, more recently, Coldplay. Well, "Paranoid Android" is playing now, sounding even better than the last time, so I've gotta' go!! Thank you, Radiohead.
